How do I send a mail merge from Gmail on a Mac?
Updated October 29, 2026
The same way as on Windows, because Gmail mail merge runs in the browser, not in macOS. Use Google’s built-in mail merge if your Workspace plan has it, or install a Chrome extension such as Mergeline in Chrome, Edge or Brave on your Mac. Keep the Mac awake while a campaign sends, since Mergeline sends from your browser.
Pick a browser
| Browser on Mac | Mergeline |
|---|---|
| Chrome | Yes |
| Edge | Yes |
| Brave | Yes |
| Safari | No |
Google’s built-in mail merge is part of Gmail on the web, so it depends on your Workspace plan, not on your Mac.
Right Inbox, another Gmail tool, also offers a Safari version if you must stay in Safari.
Steps on a Mac
- Install Mergeline from the Chrome Web Store in Chrome, Edge or Brave.
- Sign in to Gmail in that browser.
- Drop in a CSV or Excel file, or paste a Google Sheets link. Numbers files need to be exported to CSV first.
- Write, preview and send.
Keep the Mac from sleeping
Mergeline sends from your browser, so a sleeping Mac pauses the campaign. It continues when the Mac wakes up, but your timing shifts. For a long send, plug in the laptop and keep the lid open, or set sending hours so it only works while you are at your desk.
Files from Mac apps
Numbers can export to CSV or Excel from its File menu. Contacts can export a vCard, which you will need to turn into a spreadsheet first. If your list is in Apple Mail, copy the addresses and paste them into Mergeline as a plain list; it pulls out every address it finds and drops duplicates. For tags beyond the email address, a spreadsheet with a column per detail works best. Once the list is in, everything else is the same as on Windows.
Keyboard shortcuts
Mergeline has a command bar you open with Command and K on a Mac, so you can jump between campaigns without the mouse.
