How do I add Cc to a Gmail mail merge?

Updated October 29, 2026

Short answer

Google’s built-in mail merge lets you add only one Cc or Bcc address, and none at all when you merge from a spreadsheet. Mergeline Pro adds Cc and Bcc to every personal email, and merge tags work there too, so {{ManagerEmail}} can copy a different person on each email. Remember that each copied address counts toward Gmail’s daily limit.

The built-in limits

Google’s help page is clear: one Cc or Bcc recipient per mail merge, and no Cc or Bcc when your list comes from Google Sheets. If you need to copy your CRM, a colleague or each person’s manager, you need another tool.

Cc in Mergeline

  1. Open “Copies and attachments” in your campaign.
  2. Type a fixed address, like your CRM’s Bcc address, or a tag such as {{ManagerEmail}} to copy a different person for each row.
  3. Check the preview: the Cc line shows for each person.
  4. Send. Copies go with the first email; follow-ups stay between you and the person.

Cc and Bcc are part of Pro ($12 a month or $99 a year).

Think about your daily limit

Every Cc and Bcc address is another recipient. If you copy one person on 300 emails, Gmail counts 600 recipients. Digital Inspiration’s quota page makes the same point for its add-on: To, Cc and Bcc all count. See do Cc and Bcc count toward the limit.

When to skip Cc

For cold outreach, copying a stranger’s boss can feel pushy. Use Cc when the person already knows everyone on the email, like a parent and a second guardian, or a client and their assistant.

Cc or Bcc?

Use Cc when the person should know who else is on the email, like a second parent. Use Bcc for silent copies, like logging every email in a CRM. A Bcc address never shows to the person you wrote to.

Tell people who is copied

If you copy someone new, say so in the email: “I’ve copied Sam Lee, who handles billing.” It avoids confusion and makes a reply-all feel natural.
