How do I increase my Gmail sending limit?

Updated October 29, 2026

Short answer

On a free Gmail account you cannot; 500 a day is the ceiling. Google Workspace raises it to 2,000 a day per user, but new and trial accounts start at 500 and get the full limits only after the domain has paid $100 in total. If you need more than that, spread sends across days or move bulk mail to a newsletter service.

What actually raises the limit

Digital Inspiration’s quota page lists the same steps for its add-on users, because no add-on can lift Google’s limit for you.

What does not work

Some tools, like GMass, offer an SMTP route that sends outside Gmail’s normal path to pass these limits. Their own page notes it depends on your account. Think hard before doing this on an account you rely on.

Do you need more?

Most personal outreach, follow-ups and class or club updates fit comfortably within 500 a day. If you send a newsletter to thousands, a dedicated service is the right tool. See mail merge vs Mailchimp.

A smarter way to fit more in

Most people who think they need a higher limit really need a better schedule. Sort the list by priority and send the most important people first. Set a daily cap and let the tool carry the rest to the next day. Drop people who never replied to your last three campaigns. You will often find the list that matters fits within the limit you already have.

When it is time to move on

If you send the same newsletter to thousands every week, Gmail is the wrong tool, however you arrange it. Move that list to a newsletter service and keep Gmail for the personal emails that need replies.
