Why is my new Google Workspace account limited to fewer emails per day?

Updated October 29, 2026

Short answer

Because Google treats new accounts with caution. Workspace trial accounts can send 500 messages a day and reach only 500 unique external recipients. Google raises the limits once the domain has paid $100 in total. Tools add their own caution too: YAMM limits new Workspace accounts to 400 a day and suggests no more than 100 a day at first.

The rules behind it

Spammers love fresh accounts, so Google starts every new Workspace domain on trial limits. The full 2,000 a day kicks in after $100 of payments on the account. On a cheap plan with a few users, that can take a couple of months.

One Reddit thread on the Workspace 2,000 limit is full of people surprised by this, so you are not alone.

Warm up, even after the limit rises

A higher limit does not mean the account has a good reputation yet. A new domain that suddenly sends hundreds of emails a day looks like spam to filters. Build up slowly:

  1. Set up SPF and DKIM for your domain first. Google requires at least one of them for every sender.
  2. Send normal email for a week or two: replies, internal mail, sign-ups.
  3. Start campaigns small and grow day by day.

Slow start in Mergeline

Mergeline’s slow start does the warm-up for you: 20 emails on the first sending day, then 15 more each sending day, up to the cap you set. It is on by default. Combined with random gaps between emails, a new account looks like a person getting busier, not a machine switching on. More in cold email from Workspace without getting banned.

How long until it is normal

Google ties the higher limits to the $100 payment rule, not to a fixed number of days. Your own warm-up is up to you; most senders give a new domain a few weeks of slowly rising volume before they lean on it.
