How many emails can I send per day from Gmail?
Updated October 29, 2026
A standard Gmail account can send about 500 emails a day, and no single email can go to more than 500 recipients. A paid Google Workspace account can send 2,000 a day per user, with up to 1,500 of those through mail merge. Workspace trial accounts are limited to 500 a day. Going over blocks sending for 1 to 24 hours.
The numbers
| Account | Daily limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free Gmail | 500 emails | Also 500 recipients per email |
| Google Workspace | 2,000 messages per user | 10,000 total recipients, 3,000 external recipients |
| Workspace, mail merge | 1,500 recipients | The last 500 of the 2,000 are kept for normal mail |
| Workspace trial | 500 messages | Limits rise after the account has paid $100 in total |

What counts
Every recipient counts, including Cc and Bcc. One email to three people uses three of your 500. Emails sent by add-ons and extensions through your account count too, because they are your emails.
What the limit is not
It is not a safe sending target. Reaching 500 cold emails a day on a new account is a quick way to get flagged. Sending fewer, better emails, spaced out, keeps you well clear of trouble.
Mergeline’s free plan sends up to 60 a day, and Pro sends up to Gmail’s own limit, with a daily cap you choose and a slow start for new accounts.
A worked example
Say you need to reach 900 people from a free Gmail account. At the full 500 a day you would finish in two days, but you would have no room for normal email and a high risk of trouble. At 150 a day you finish in six working days, with room to answer replies. Mergeline lets you set that cap once; when it is reached, the rest of the list waits for the next day automatically.
