What free plans usually leave out
Most free plans cut the parts that save the most time. Watch for these:
- Follow-ups. Mergeline and Mailmeteor keep automatic follow-ups on paid plans.
- Branding. Some free plans add a “sent with” line. Mergeline’s free plan adds nothing.
- Tracking. Many free plans add an open tracking pixel to every email, which you may not want.
If you only send a few dozen emails a day, a free plan is often all you need. Mergeline Pro adds follow-ups, scheduling and attachments for $12 a month.
The do-it-yourself route
Google Apps Script can read rows from a sheet and send an email for each row. It costs nothing, but you build and fix it yourself, and Gmail’s daily limit still applies. See mail merge with Apps Script.
Pick by how you work
If your list lives in Google Sheets and you like working there, a Sheets add-on feels natural. If you live in Gmail, an extension puts the merge next to your inbox. Mergeline also adds a button next to Gmail’s Send, so you can write to a handful of people as usual and still send each one a separate copy.
