Which Google Workspace plans include Gmail’s built-in mail merge?

Updated October 29, 2026

Short answer

Google lists Workspace Individual, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Standard and Education Plus. Business Starter and free Gmail accounts do not get it. On eligible plans you can send to up to 1,500 mail merge recipients a day, with the last 500 of your 2,000 daily emails kept for normal mail.

What the feature includes

What it leaves out

If your plan lacks it, or you need follow-ups, an extension works on any plan. See why the button may be missing.

Before you upgrade

Upgrading a whole company to a higher plan just for mail merge is costly, since the price is per user. Ask whether one person can use an extension instead. Also note that the built-in tool still has no follow-ups, no scheduling and no tags in subjects, so you may need another tool anyway. If you do upgrade, give the feature a test run with a small list of colleagues before you send to customers.

Mixed plans in one company

Some companies mix plans, with a few people on Business Standard and the rest on Starter. Only the people on an eligible plan see the button, which explains why it works for a colleague and not for you.
