What is the Google Workspace daily sending limit?
Updated October 29, 2026
Google Workspace allows 2,000 messages a day per user. Behind that sit more limits: 10,000 total recipients a day, 3,000 external recipients, and 3,000 unique recipients, of which 2,000 can be external. Mail merge can use up to 1,500 a day. Trial accounts get only 500, and the higher limits apply after the account has paid $100 in total.
Every Workspace limit in one table
| Limit | Per user per day |
|---|---|
| Messages sent | 2,000 (500 on trial) |
| Mail merge recipients | 1,500 |
| Total recipients | 10,000 |
| External recipients | 3,000 |
| Unique recipients | 3,000 (2,000 external, 500 external on trial) |
| Recipients per message through the Gmail API | 500 |

Why people find this confusing
A Reddit thread on this exact question opens with: “There is a lot of confusing stuff out regarding the daily sending limit.” The confusion comes from the layers. You might send 1,200 messages, well under 2,000, and still hit the external recipient limit if many of them have Cc addresses outside your company.
The trial and $100 rule
New Workspace accounts start with trial limits. Google raises them once the domain has paid $100 in total, which can take a while on a small plan. If your new account seems stuck at a lower number, this is usually why. See new Workspace account limits.
How Mergeline fits in
Mergeline Pro sends up to Gmail’s own limit, but you set a daily cap below it. Leave room for the email you write by hand, so a campaign never locks you out of your inbox for the day.
Per user, not per company
The limits apply to each user, not the whole domain. Two people on the same domain each get their own 2,000.
Leave a buffer
Do not plan campaigns right up to 2,000. Replies, meeting invites and normal work all use the same daily allowance. A cap around half the limit for campaigns keeps your day running smoothly.
