Mergeline vs Gmail mail merge

Gmail’s built-in mail merge costs nothing extra if your Workspace plan includes it, sends up to 1,500 emails a day and needs no third-party app. Mergeline works on every Gmail account, adds tags in subject lines, follow-ups, scheduling and attachments, and is free for 60 emails a day.

What is the main difference between Mergeline and Gmail mail merge?

Google’s mail merge is a mode of Gmail’s compose window, on Workspace Individual, Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Education Standard and Plus. It is not on Business Starter or free gmail.com accounts1.

It keeps things simple on purpose. Tags work in the body but not in the subject line or in linked text. You get one Cc or Bcc address, none with a spreadsheet. Sheet data must be in the first tab. There is no schedule send and no follow-up, and you cannot send from an alias1.

Mergeline is a Chrome extension that works with any Gmail account. It runs in your browser, so the browser must stay open while a campaign sends.

How much do Mergeline and Gmail mail merge cost per year?

Google’s mail merge is included in eligible Workspace plans; we did not check those plan prices for this page. If you are on Business Starter or a free gmail.com account, you would need to change plans to get it1.

Mergeline is free for 60 emails a day on any account. Pro is $12 a month or $99 a year.

Which one is more private?

Google’s feature is first party: there is no third-party app and no extra permission to grant1. That is as private as it gets for the mail merge step itself.

Mergeline stores your lists, emails, results and do-not-email list in your browser’s extension storage. In its default mode it asks for no Google account permissions: it fills Gmail’s own compose window in your Gmail tab. If you choose Google sign-in instead, it asks for gmail.send, which Google classes as sensitive rather than restricted, and for gmail.readonly only if you turn on reply detection2. That data is used in your browser and never sent to a Mergeline server. The full breakdown is on our security page.
